L’Oréal Paris Elvive Total Repair 5 Repairing Shampoo, L’Oréal Paris Elvive Total Repair 5 Repairing Conditioner, and L’Oréal Paris Elvive Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm are all worth trying. Damaged hair was the inspiration for the Total Repair 5 procedure. Shampoo should be rubbed into wet hair before rinsing. After that, apply the conditioner and keep it on for one to three minutes before rinsing it out. Apply the hair mask once or twice a week after shampooing. Allow three to five minutes for it to sit before rinsing it off.

2. WASH YOUR HAIR WITH LUKEWARM WATER

Showers with a lot of steam are great for your skin, but they can be damaging to your hair, particularly if you have damaged strands. Too hot water will strip your hair of important oils, making it appear drier. So turn down the heat and rinse your hair in lukewarm water the next time you wash your hair.

3. USE A DEEP CONDITIONER TO CARE FOR IT.

If you haven’t done, you should incorporate a deep conditioner into your weekly hair care routine. This is because deep conditioning treatments repair strands from the inside out, making them stronger and less damaged over time. Furthermore, it takes less time to use today’s formulas than you might assume. In just one minute, the L’Oréal Paris Elvive Total Repair 5 Rapid Reviver Deep Conditioner conditions, fortifies, and repairs hair. Use the L’Oréal Paris Elvive Color Vibrancy Rapid Reviver Deep Conditioner if your hair has been colored or bleached, as it works in under a minute. A lamellar hair treatment could be the answer if you think your strands could need some additional TLC. Which one do we think is the best? L’Oréal Paris’ 8 Second Wonder Water Lamellar Hair Treatment. This mild rinse-out hair treatment transforms into a light foam that hydrates the hair and aids in the healing of damaged areas while also helps in the healing of damaged areas. The solution makes your strands look smoother without the heaviness that harsher treatments might create. Most importantly, its advanced technology adapts to the level of your hair’s damage, providing exactly the right amount of care to help you restore your mane’s health.

Use the miracle water treatment after you’ve rinsed off your shampoo. Apply it evenly throughout your hair from the mid-lengths to the ends, massage it in for eight seconds, and then rinse it out. Your mane will appear shiny, smooth, and healthy as a consequence of this treatment.

5. COMB YOUR HAIR BEFORE SHAMPOOING.

Do you find yourself becoming wrapped up in tangles? You might want to comb your hair before washing it. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, most people should handle damp hair as little as possible (AAD). Wet hair is more brittle, thus this is the case. The more information you have, the better!

If you need to brush your damp hair, towel-dry it first (or use an old tee—more on that later) and use a wet brush or wide-tooth comb, which will be gentler on your strands. To avoid more rips and split ends, combine both with a hair detangler. Are you looking for a product suggestion? With the L’Oréal Kids Burst of Sweet Pear Tangle Tamer for All Hair Types, you can take a trip down memory lane with a spray-on conditioning treatment that rapidly detangles any hair type.

Editor’s note: Looking for more help with knotted hair? This page explains how to detangle knotty hair.

6. USE A T-SHIRT, NOT A TOWEL, TO DRY YOUR HAIR.

Remember how we promised to find an old tee? We were serious about it! Don’t throw away that old T-shirt just yet. When you get out of the shower, instead of rubbing your hair dry with a towel, put on a cotton T-shirt. Cotton shirts are gentler on your strands, and gentle is the name of the game when it comes to caring for damaged hair.

7. USE HEAT TO PREPARE YOUR HAIR FOR STYLING

Before attempting to produce voluminous curls or a smooth blowout, always use a heat protectant on your hair. This should be the first step in the heat styling process if you have heat-damaged hair (or any hair type for that matter)! A fantastic alternative is L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle SLEEK IT Iron Straight Heatspray. Hold the bottle six to eight inches away from damp hair and spritz evenly. Bonus: This heat protectant calms frizz, locks in shine, keeps humidity at bay, and conditions hair for a neat, long-lasting style. Score!

8. LOWER THE TEMP ON HEAT TOOLS

Blow dryers, curling wands, and flat irons are examples of heat equipment that can get fairly hot. However, if you have heat damaged hair, the less heat you use, the better for your locks. Set your heat tools to the lowest temperature that will still produce the desired results without requiring many passes over each piece as a general guideline. It may take a few tries to get the hang of it, but your hair will thank you in the end!

9. APPRECIATE YOUR HAIR’S NATURAL TEXTURE

The texture is essential. In fact, now is the best time to show off your natural hair, whether it’s straight, wavy, curly, or any combination of the three. Put down the blow dryer and let your damaged hair air dry to show off some major style. Here are five ways to let your hair dry naturally:

1. Use a mousse to add volume to your hair. Use a hair mousse to assist improve the natural shape of your hair. Apply an egg-sized dab of hair mousse to damp, clean hair, evenly dispersing it from roots to ends. If you scrunch your hair, you’re set to go.

2. Easily create beachy waves. Who says you have to spend a lot of time in the water to get this look? Simply braid your hair and keep it in place with a hold spray like L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Boost It High Lift Creation. Spritz your mane all over. Before unraveling for delicate waves, let it rest for a few hours or overnight.

3. Select a natural-looking style. Apply a hair cream evenly to damp hair from the roots to the ends. After your hair has dried, apply a small dab of hair cream to the ends for added smoothness.

4. Go for an unkempt bedhead style. There’s no rule that says you have to keep your mane styled all the time. Sometimes a gloriously flawed appearance is exactly what you need. Allow your hair to air dry completely without the use of any products before brushing it thoroughly. Apply a dime-sized amount of pomade or paste to your strands, like L’Oréal Paris Studio Line Overworked Hair Putty. Scrunch and add product as you go to define your layers and provide texture. Just keep in mind that more isn’t necessarily better—you can always apply more product if necessary, but removing excess product is much more difficult.

5. Accessorize your hair with hair accessories. Do you believe a headband should only be worn during the day? Consider your viewpoint once more! A soft cloth loop headband can be used to produce a beautiful heat-free hairstyle overnight! To begin, put on the headband as usual. Wrap a one-inch section of hair around the headband until there is nothing left to wrap. Continue in this manner for the rest of your journey. Allow your hair to air dry while you sleep. If your hair is dry when you wake up, carefully untangle it from the headband to reveal heat-free curls.

TEN WAYS TO ROCK A BRAID

Fishtail braids, braided crowns, braided buns, and pretty much any other braid hairstyle you can think of can keep damaged strands out of your face. And because braids look best when they have a little texture, this is the ideal style to achieve without using heat. Because of its beautiful herringbone pattern, the fishtail braid is one of our current favorite styles. It may appear to be difficult, but it is not. Here’s how to go about it: Your hair should be pulled to one side and divided into two sections. Repeat this method until you reach the bottom of your hair by taking a half-inch segment from one side and crossing it over the other. Use a transparent elastic to secure your plait. That’s right, it’s that simple!

Note from the editor: Having trouble making your fishtail? Before braiding, gather your hair into a ponytail and tie it with an elastic. This provides you more control, which is very useful if you’re new to braiding. You can either leave the elastic in your hair or take it away with scissors once you’ve finished braiding. This manner, we can keep this styling advice a secret.

11. GO TO THE SALON AND GET YOUR HAIR CUT

Why not take advantage of this chance for a fresh start? With so many intriguing hairstyles gaining popularity—layered bobs, lobs, and pixies, to name a few—never there’s been a better time to experiment and try something new. This is a good option if your hair is severely damaged because it will eliminate any split ends that may be detracting from your overall appearance.

Are you hesitant to make a significant change? That’s all right! Even a basic haircut can drastically improve the appearance and feel of damaged hair. Plus, who doesn’t enjoy a trip to the salon, where you can sit back, relax, and get pampered for a couple of hours before leaving feeling incredibly self-assured? It’s a win-win situation for everyone!

12. BRUSH LIGHTLY

Remember the old cliché about brushing your hair 100 times before going out tonight? This isn’t the case in the least.

MONDAY

We’re guessing you’ll be heading to work or have some plans to prepare for because it’s the start of the week. You’ll definitely want your hair to look beautiful, but try to stay away from heat as much as possible. Choose a heatless haircut that complements your natural hair texture if at all possible. We’ve created a playlist with choices for various hair lengths as well as the best damaged hair solutions.

Apply some oil or serum to the ends of your hair before going to bed to keep it nourished. This might be a good time to use the Moroccanoil Treatment, which is fairly rich and great for dry hair.

TUESDAY

Use dry shampoo to absorb excess oil if your hair appears oily in the morning. Today, avoid anything too tight that could cause your hair to strain by going heatless with your haircut.

If you need to, you can wash your hair in the evening with Maria Nila Structure Repair shampoo and conditioner. However, we recommend that you wait as long as possible between washings. Damaged hair need as much moisture as possible, thus eliminating the oils will be harmful to the health of your hair.

WEDNESDAY

It’s a good idea to check on your hair’s health in the middle of the week, and brushing off your split ends is a good idea. Split ends are an excellent measure of the health of your hair, and you should clip them off as soon as you discover them. Your hair shaft will continue to split as a result of split ends, and there is no way to reverse the damage. Dusting comes in handy here because it’s a great method to remain on top of them without compromising length. Snip the very end of your hair where it is starting to split.

Quick Tip: We always advocate using a loop brush with hair extensions because it won’t pull or snap your strands. Because they’re so soft, they’re especially wonderful for damaged hair, so we’d recommend them over anything else.

THURSDAY

You’ll most likely need to wash your hair this evening, which is an excellent time to treat your scalp. Although mild exfoliation can help to enhance hair development and health, it is an area of your hair that is typically disregarded. This can be done with a scalp massager and shampoo, or with a specialty scrub such as the OUAI Scalp and Body Scrub. Once a week, do this to help remove product buildup and increase blood flow to your hair follicles. This creates the optimum setting for new hair growth and makes your roots appear more voluminous.

FRIDAY

We’re guessing you’ll be styling your hair with heat this evening or over the weekend, so make sure it’s prepped with a heat protectant. Our favorite is the GHD Heat Protect Spray because it’s light and won’t weigh down your strands. We also recommend that you pin each curl until it’s cool, if you’re curling your hair. This will make your hairstyle last longer, allowing you to skip restyles throughout the weekend. It’s also great if you’re wearing Milk + Blush hair extensions since they hold their curls for longer. You can also save time and money by styling only the top section of your natural hair and not using as much heat.

SATURDAY

Because you’ll be styling your hair more during the weekend, wash it less frequently so that your natural oils can build up and preserve your strands. You can use dry shampoo to soak up any excess if necessary, but we recommend waiting until tomorrow to wash it. You might also add some extra serum or oil to your hair’s ends to replenish any moisture lost due to heat style. After that, you can resume your damaged hair routine to maintain good vibes!

SUNDAY

To set yourself up for a fantastic hair week, start your hair routine on Sunday! To replenish your damaged hair, we recommend starting the procedure with a very nourishing hair mask. The Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask is one of our favorites. It contains rosehip and argan oil, as well as B vitamins and algae extract, to give you glossy strands and reduce breakage by up to 75%.

After that, use a light shampoo and conditioner to wash your hair. Maria Nila’s Structure Repair shampoo and conditioner, which is intended for damaged, dry, and chemically treated hair, is a good choice. When you’re finished, avoid the blow dryer and let your hair air dry instead. This will assist it in retaining much-needed moisture. To produce heatless soft waves, use no bend clips to hold your hairline in place and twist it into a loose bun. We’d also suggest using a scrunchie instead of a hair elastic because it’s much gentler.

If your hair isn’t totally dry before bedtime, use a heat protectant and blow-dry it on a low to medium heat setting. Going to bed with damp hair, as much as you wish to avoid the heat will inflict far more damage.
