Moisture is the foundation of any hair care regimen. Natural hair is naturally dry, so you’ll need to do everything you can to keep it moisturized. Because of the shape of each curly strand, curly or kinky hair is dry. It’s a spiral, which makes moisturizing more difficult.

When you wet your straight hair, the water runs straight down the hair shaft. Because of its spiral structure, sections of the hair strand are overlooked when water is poured on curly hair. As a result, you should moisturise it more and strive to keep it wet.

I’ve said it before, but for anyone who might have missed it, I’ll say it again.

Hair grease isn’t the same as moisture.

There’s no getting around it. Hair grease may be effective for relaxed hair, but it is ineffective for building a solid natural hair care routine. Many hair greases contain substances that are harmful to your hair.

If you’re just getting started, my first piece of advice is to get rid of your hair grease right away so you don’t get tempted to use it again.

Water is, without a doubt, the most fundamental method for moisturizing natural hair. It’s fine to wet your hair now and then, but you must keep in mind that water naturally evaporates over time. You may wet your hair right now only to find it dry again a few hours later.

The way your hair absorbs water will alter depending on whether you have high, low, or regular porosity hair.

The good news is that there are several things you can do to extend the life of the water in your hair.

 

 

Conditioner that is left on the skin

You may have have heard of the LOC approach. LOC stands for Liquid, Oil, and Cream. These should be applied to your hair in that sequence.

Remember how I said you might have to tinker with things to make them work for you? This is one of those instances. Some people find that LOC doesn’t work well for them, thus they prefer LCO, which is the same acronym but with the letters arranged differently.

The objective is to keep moisture in your hair rather than lose it, which is why you should only wash your hair with shampoo every few months to clarify your scalp.

Air purifier

When I suggested that you should only shampoo your hair every few months but wash it every 1-2 weeks, you might have been a little confused.

This means that every 1-2 weeks, you should co-wash your hair (conditioner wash it)

Washing with conditioner is preferable since it helps you to wash your hair and make it feel fresh and clean without removing moisture from the strands.

 

 

Extensive conditioning

For all-natural sistas, a deep conditioner is an essential. Deep conditioning allows your hair to absorb even more moisture.

Deep conditioners are designed to go deep into the strands of your hair. I like to apply a deep conditioner after each wash, but you are not required to do so. You may discover that this is too much for your hair. You may believe that once a month is more convenient for you.

Experimenting to determine what works best for you is a wonderful idea.

Deep conditioners are designed to be washed off, so you’d normally leave them on for approximately 15 minutes and then wash them away.
