What is it about rice water that makes it such a fantastic hair product? This is a question that a lot of people with natural hair have. We’ll go over the different advantages of using rice water in your natural hair care routine below.

1. It encourages hair growth.

Rice water is high in amino acids, which aid hair renewal. Vitamins B, C, and E are also included in rice water, which help to encourage hair development. The usage of rice water on a regular basis has been shown to increase hair development in Asian women.

It’s no surprise that Yao women’s average height is over 1.5 meters. These women not only have long hair, but it’s also delicious and healthy.

Rice water for 4C hair growth: how to make it
Rice water can be made in a variety of ways. In this article, I’ll show you how to make rice water for hair using four different recipes.

The fermentation method is one of the most popular ways to prepare rice water; the fermentation process produces a solution that is extremely beneficial to hair. In fact, some people find the fermented rice water to be too strong and must dilute it.

Here are four different ways to make rice water for hair development.

1- Ingredients for the No-Boil Method

12 cup uncooked raw rice
2 to 3 cups water
3–7 drops of your favorite essential oil (Where to buy)
Method

Fill the container with clean rice and water.
Using a spoon, swirl it in a circular manner.
Allow it to sit for 30 minutes at room temperature, the longer the better, to ensure that the rice absorbs all of the nutrients.
Add 3 drops of essential oil to the rice water after straining it.
Using the rice water, rinse your hair.

2- A simple/minimalist life hack
Are you concerned that there will be a waste of rice after it has been soaked? I was worried about the same thing until I discovered a simple ‘life hack’ for making rice water.

Start by washing your rice on the day you plan to cook it. Depending on the quality and where you bought your rice, the water from this wash may contain pollutants.
Continue with the’second’ wash, but this time do not drain the water. After storing the water in a jar for up to 24 hours, you’ll have rice water with no waste.
Why does this work? Because the water resulting from the wash has a lot of minerals in it, it can be used for your hair when washing the rice you intend to cook.

3- Ingredients for Fermentation Method 3

12 cup uncooked raw rice
2 to 3 cups water
3–7 drops of your favorite essential oil (where to buy)
Method

Fill a jar halfway with water and add clean rice.
Using a spoon, swirl it in a circular manner.
Cover the rice water and set it aside at room temperature for 1-2 days.
Using a strainer, add 3-7 drops of an essential oil to the rice water.
Use the rice water to rinse your hair.
Refrigerate the fermented rice water to prevent additional fermentation.

While fermented rice water is healthier than plain rice water, fermentation comes with a drawback: a foul odor. An essential oil is included in the recipe above, which will help the rice water smell better.

There are various different methods for removing the foul odor from rice water. Learn about 8 alternative techniques to improve the scent of fermented rice in this post.

4- Ingredients for the Boiling Method

12 cup uncooked raw rice
2 to 3 cups water
3–7 drops of your favorite essential oil (where to buy)
Method

Bring water to a boil in the same way you would for rice.
Double the amount of water you’d normally use.
When the rice is almost done, drain the water and set it aside to cool to room temperature.
3 drops of your favorite essential oil
Using the rice water, rinse your hair.

**Adjust the proportions based on the volume of your hair, how often you use it, and how concentrated you want the rice water to be. The amounts shown below are what I’ve discovered to be the most effective for my hair type and volume**.

What is the best way to use rice water on 4C hair?
I’ve tried a few different ways to use rice water, and I’ve found the following to be the most successful. After you’ve seen how rice water affects your hair, you can be as creative as you want.

1- To detangle hair, use rice water.
When rice water is applied to the hair, it rapidly conditions it, making it silky and simple to untangle. Rice water detangles the strands by smoothing the cuticles and reducing surface friction.

Prepare your rice water according to your favorite technique (from the list above).
Make your hair moist, not wet, by spraying it with warm water.
Apply the rice water generously to your hair with a spray bottle until you feel the softness. (If you don’t have a spray bottle, use a jar to slowly pour the rice water over your hair, then use a basin to catch the overflow.) Leave the rice water in for around 5 minutes before gently finger detangling your hair. (You can reuse the overflow during the same session.)
After rinsing your hair, continue with your usual hair care routine.

3- Use it as a shampoo or mix it in with your shampoo

Rice water in your shampoo makes a great difference on your wash day because of its effective conditioning effects. As you wash your hair, it will become lot easier to handle.
Making your own shampoo with rice water is another technique to use rice water as a washing agent. This is something you should try if you are a DIYer who wants to thoroughly inspect what is in your products. Simply add liquid castile soap to your fermented rice water to make the shampoo. You can add an essential oil to your combination for further advantages.
3- Hair conditioner/rinse
Rice water is used as a hair rinse by many members of the natural hair community. This is accomplished by rinsing your hair with rice water after shampooing. Allow the rice to soak for about 10 minutes before rinsing with plain water. Add some essential oil to your rice water for a more pleasant aroma.

4- Prior to pooping

This is for those with hair that can tolerate Rice Water for longer periods of time.
Rice water can be used as a pre-poo or an overnight spray. To do so, dilute rice water with your customary pre-poo oil, like as olive oil, and an essential oil. Spray the mixture on your hair and leave it in for 30 – 45 minutes if your hair can tolerate the hair proteins for that long, or overnight if your hair can’t bear them. Don’t try this if rice water makes your hair hard when left in for a long time.
Is fermented rice water preferable to unfermented rice water?
Fermented rice water is more effective than regular rice water, according to a 2012 study. Here’s why:

Because the PH of plain rice is greater than that of your hair, fermentation lowers the PH to that of hair and aids in the closure of the cuticles, therefore protecting the hair.

During fermentation, a material called ‘Pitera’ formed in the rice water, which is high in vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and organic acids. Pitera is known for promoting cell regeneration and maintaining the health of your skin and hair.

When it comes to rice water, how long should you leave it in your hair?
Rice water should be kept on the hair for at least 15 minutes to allow the nutrients to penetrate the hair strands, but not for too long to cause damage.

The length of time you leave the rice water depends on numerous things, including hair porosity and rice concentration. Some people, particularly those with low porosity hair, discover that keeping rice water on their hair for an extended period of time, such as overnight, causes their hair to dry out.

We conducted a case study of 7 Influencers who shared their experiences with rice water in order to establish how long they left rice water in their hair on average. Check out the article to learn more about the case study’s findings and the various elements that influence how long rice water should be left on your hair.

Is it okay if I keep rice water in my hair for the night?
If you have low porosity hair or if your hair is protein sensitive, you should rinse the rice water after a maximum of one hour, as previously stated.

Inositol remains in the hair after rinsing off the rice water, acting as a protective layer. So there’s no point in leaving it on for an extended period of time. I’ve discovered that if I keep rice water in my hair for too long, it becomes quite dry.

There are undoubtedly numerous points of view on this, but this is my personal opinion based on my own experiences. You can observe what occurs if you leave the rice water in for a long time. It’s possible that your hair will behave differently. How To Grow Natural 4C

How often should I wash my hair with rice water?
If you use rice water on your hair too regularly, it can cause damage, particularly if you have poor porosity hair or if your hair is sensitive to rice proteins.

Rice water is high in proteins and should be used as a protein therapy. As a result, don’t use too much rice water on your hair.

When you’re first starting out with rice water treatment, you’ll want to play around with the frequency, but start with once a week or every two weeks. You may eventually adjust to once a month, especially if you use different sorts of treatments on your hair. How To Grow Natural 4C

Should I apply a conditioner after washing my hair with rice water?
Rice water is a natural conditioner that does an excellent job of conditioning your hair. As a result, I don’t see why using a store-bought conditioner after using rice water would be beneficial. After shampooing your hair, use the rice water as a last rinse.

Here’s something to keep in mind about rice water….

It’s critical to keep your expectations in check when using rice water. Rice water affects everyone of us differently. Just because a YouTuber claims their hair grew 4 inches in a week after utilizing rice water doesn’t imply you’ll have the same results. How To Grow Natural 4C
